Why is our ultramodern era so desperate for NEW NEW NEW? New objects, new content, new sex, new drugs, new money…that electric dopamine thrill for whatever’s fresh…NEW is a drug, and society is strung out to the point where ‘new’ becomes a general blitz of glitz, glam, tech and spam sucking us into a dizzying race until we’re left wondering, what happened to the days that were once the present, and not the future?

This is probably why some people shop at thrift stores. Adore vintage – records, clothing, antiques, etc…to settle comfortably in the past without the manic frenzy for what’s next. History is a treasure trove of beauty, art, care and craftsmanship, and sometimes it feels fucking good to go BACK, rather than forward.

Violetta Zironi’s stunning and delicate ballad ‘By the Light of the Moon’ (released recently on Sound.xyz) has me thinking about all this, probably because it gives me luscious Nancy Sinatra vibes more than anything I’m hearing today. Lost amidst her poignant recitation I feel the joy, pain, longing, dreams, and daggers of what love is, could be, and never was…when the song finished I was bereft…nostalgic for the best moments with all of my ex-loves…and for the beginning of the song, which thankfully I could replay!

Cheers to Zironi for importing her timeless artistry into the web3 format, a blend of old world style and futuristic application (I chuckle at the irony). She’s released multiple collections since early 2022 utilizing various platforms & marketplaces, headlined by her Moonshot collection (2.5K supply with unique art and 5 different original songs, .129 ETH floor!) which was released via a relatively new player in the space – Nifty Music (“A 2022 Music NFT Accelerator Program”). And from the support across social media and various NFT marketplaces, she’s gathering quite a following. She’s one of the few in her genre to aggressively embrace music NFTs and deserves the success she’s getting. Bravo Violetta! Kalcium will be checking for you in the future.
